Black Women's Rape Action Project

Organisation name
Black Women's Rape Action Project
Black Women's Rape Action Project (BWRAP) provides practical self-help support services and counselling to Black women, and other women of colour including immigrant and refugee women and girls who: have been raped or sexually assaulted in their country of origin; face sexual harassment at work or in other areas; have experienced domestic violence, racist attacks or rape and sexual abuse by people in authority, including in institutions, by police or military forces.

Services include providing a safe environment for support, counselling and practical help with:

Asylum and immigration claims
Claiming compensation
Health care referral
Finding secure housing or a refuge
Claiming benefits and services
Reporting to the police
Arranging protection from further attack
Getting legal aid
Preparing for and attending court
BWRAP makes visible the needs, and experiences and particular obstacles faced by black women and other women of colour when trying to escape a violent situation and reach a ‘place of safety’. They research and highlight legislation and policies which have a detrimental effect on such women, increasing their vulnerability to rape and other violence.
